Watched Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator (starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Cate Blanchett) last night and got to thinking about Katharine Hepburn. Among her many captivating performances is a scene in The Philadelphia Story between Ms Hepburn and James_Stewart wherein she utters the phrase “The best time to make you mind up about people is never.”
I’ll try to find a more concise clip on Youtube, but for now you can find the scene in question starting at the 1:55 mark here.
Last night I started to read “The Point of No Return” – Jeffrey Goldberg’s cover story in the September issue of The Atlantic. The rest of my family is still asleep so I have a chance this morning to get through the rest of the article. I’ll resist commenting on the central issue discussed in the article – the conditions that would cause Israel to unilaterally attack Iran’s nuclear weapons program – until I have read it fully and take some time to think about his argument. There is a historical point mentioned in “The Point of No Return” that I am keen to dig into, specifically: The Persian King Cyrus.
Pingdom.com published a very eye opening infographic in late July showing the top 20 countries in terms of Internet users:
The underlying data was aggregated by Internet World Stats which claims their country-by-country user counts were updated on June 30, 2010.
As you can see Canada clocks in at number 19. I suspect this is the last year we will appear in the top 20. I spent a few minutes digging around the Internet World Stats tables and noticed that both Argentina and Columbia both have user counts in the low 20 million range. Internet penetration in both countries is considerably lower then Canada’s but is growing quite quickly. Hence my feeling that Canada will be eclipsed by both countries next year.
